From the supplier: Efforts to amend the Voluntary Standard for Sliced Decorative Wood Veneer in favor of standardized and thinner veneer thickness are discussed. European and Japanese set thinner veneer thickness standards than Americans. A thin veneer offers wider variety and cost-effective use of raw materials. However, it lowers productivity since thinner veneers are more delicate to machine and the prevailing wet weather adds to the moisture content of the wood, making thinner veneers more brittle.
