Designer/builder Ethan Fierro celebrates the creativity and whimsical inspiration of summer with this collection of original outdoor shower designs he’s uncovered from coast to coast. He offers dozens of examples for homeowners to choose from, all pictured in stunning color photographs, ranging from the simple showerhead on the side of the cottage, to semi-detached and freestanding structures. Accompanying text describes the design and material elements involved in each example.
Beginning with the basics, Fierro includes an overview of basic plumbing and structural requirements, along with suggestions for incorporating a wide range of building materials, including stone, wood, metal, frosted glass blocks, earth, concrete, tile, stucco, and landscape vegetation. His plans are environmentally sound and mindful of cost-saving techniques, with ideas for repurposing found and recycled materials.
Fierro exhibits his own inspired aesthetic in the final chapter with illustrated plans for six fantasy showers, including a tree house, a vineenclosed frame, a stained-glass nautilus, and an underground cavity with a hole for sky-viewing. The Outdoor Shower will set free the inner spirit—and the inner builder—of any summer-home owner. | | | |

A fine pick for any who would restore function to an outside setting Sep 02, 2006
By Midwest Book Review Outdoor showers aren't just for camping anymore: they're popping up as trendy home add-ons to a garden, and Ethan Fierro's The Outdoor Shower: Creative Design Ideas For Backyard Living, From The Functional To The Fantastic allows for a range of ideas and applications. Lovely color photos of such showers run the gamut from very simple to amazingly detailed, while choices in heating from solar to convention and choices in design offer details for virtually any setting, whether it be stone, wood, metal or tile. A fine pick for any who would restore function to an outside setting.

Awesome & Inspiring Jul 14, 2006
By T. Nolan The Outdoor Shower book gave me the confidence to build my own outdoor shower. It also inspired me to get creative with my design. The book is rich with technical information, packed with great photos, and full of plumbing fixture ideas and more. Ethan has done a fantastic job at filling a void.

Great photos and ideas Jul 16, 2008
By J. Sandlin This book is a practical guide to putting in an outdoor shower. I would've liked more photos of what people have done to create great outdoor shower spaces- the book seems to mostly focus on Martha's Vineyard- but this book has some good advice on plumbing from the house, drainage, and partitions. It is a good place to start if putting in an outdoor shower, but I found the internet and my local guys at Home Depot to be better resources for some things.

Over zealous Jul 26, 2008
By Frederick A. Rice The book has some interesting ideas and nice pictures, but it really comes up short in planning and building an outdoor shower. Eventually I did it myself and, by the way, there were some plumbing errors that should be pointed out to the author, specifically there are two kinds of PVC pipe, one for hot and cold and one just for cold water.

Entertained May 21, 2007
By P. sardaro This book was clearly written and the author did a fine job of researching the topic of outdoor showers. the drawings and the sidebar tips were well done. the multitude of options for individual tastes of showers were well explained. the author obviously not only enjoys the art of designing the shower, but has the knowledge and talent to construct one also, which in turn helps the readers confindence in building his or her own. i would recomend this book to anyone who enjoys the outdoor experience of showering.
