5Great quality book - oodles better than the paperback version  Dec 09, 2005 By Patrick
I bought this book because I am studying to be an electrician. I like it considerably more than the paperback version it is far easier to find section headings and sub-headings when you are looking for something. The paper is strong and glossy-white (as opposed to gray and flimsy in the paperback) and headings are in bold type and indented.

That may not sound like much, but it is many times easier to read this version than the paperback version I was supplied to by my school.

The book also features notes about many revisions to the Code from the 2002 edition as well as numerous examples, illustrations, and diagrams of different regulations.

The book is very well constructed, albeit, rather large at 1300+ pages. If you need to buy a code book, this one will last a lot longer than the paperback one!

2NEC 2005 Handbook of limited value  Dec 18, 2007 By Dave Master Electrician
I have had my master electrician license for 21 years but needed to study for a master license in another state. I have been an electrical contractor and state electrical inspector. I studied for about 100 hours using the regular codebook and I used this "handbook" as a reference. I was very disappointed in that almost every single time I had a question or something was unclear there was absolutely no reference to the "complex" issue. It seemed like the obvious was explained in "other words" but the hard stuff was ignored. I realize "hard stuff" is subjective and my review acknowledges that. In this handbook the simplistic issues are reiterated or a picture is shown which is probably great for beginners or apprentices. I'm not sure why there is almost no clarification or examples regarding the more complicated code issues and almost no useful load, feeder or building service calculations. I would recommend not relying on this book if you want to pass a master test.

5National Electrical Code 2005 Handbook  Nov 14, 2006 By Bruno
This book really helped me. Not being an Electrician but a tradeworker in the midst of a carreer change. It was difficult for me to read and comprehend the 2005 National Electrical Code book without the help of this handbook. The pictures are helpful, and the examples for the calculations really worked for me. This book is quite large and full of great information. I would recomend it for anyone.

5Important Resource  Feb 19, 2007 By Harlan Cook
Wanting to make internal wiring systems safer is the right thing to do. However, knowing how to meet that goal has never been more difficult. And with internal wiring systems more complex than ever, having a resource that provides correct answers about the NEC rules along with details in a simple explaination, is even more useful. That's exactly what the NEC 2005 Handbook does.

I have used this resource for years and can always count on it to provide answers in a clear and concise manner. The latest Handbook continues to improve with the increased use of illustrations and expanded discussions to help the reader know the NEC rule specifics... while helping in its understanding.

The Handbook is a "must have" reference if you are serious about doing all you can to meet the safety goals of the NEC Rules.
