Masonry Skills is great Oct 26, 2009
By James A. Myers
"DIY"
If you are searching for a great book on masonry skills this one is it. Written with trade scool teaching in view, it also reads to qualify as a basic masonry jobsite textbook. The author has written Advanced Masonry Skills several years ago, but whether it will come out in a new edition is questionable as Kreh is advanced in years (80 in 2009).
It covers bricks and mortar very well, and also block. For the DIY the basics are well covered, much more so than in a Home Depot type book.
There is an editorial staff who assisted in preparing this book from information provided in the book as it enters the textbook arena.
Kreh writes for Fine Homebuilding magazine and their book, Building with Masonry: Brick, Block, and Concrete (Paperback), and also had a part in Time-Life books on masonry--very qualfied is the meaning. The book just mentioned is much shorter than Masonry Skills. Masonry Skills is THE book, like having an uncle as a bricklayer.
Good, not great Mar 05, 2011
By Woody This book was a great resource for my college class. The author did a great job of laying out the chapters in a logical manner. It is badly in need of some up to date content though.

By Bwoodchuck This is a nice book. It was in brand new condition when I purchased it for school. Will most likely keep this copy. Very useful.
