Excellent guide Jul 13, 2007
By Bruce H. Taylor Having never built a kiln before this book is an invaluable source for how to construct a pottery kiln. The only reason I gave it four rather than five stars is that it is a British book and the metric system and refractories used are based on what is common in England and different to what is commonly available in America but the techniques and methods can be used for American products with success. I am very pleased with the content as there is no other book that is so clear in explaining step by step, brick by brick how to construct a kiln.

FINALLY!!!! The book I've been searching for Jan 28, 2009

I think I've bought every book available on kiln construction. They explain the methods of construction, how to lay bricks, show every imaginable kiln design, but nothing concrete. Finally Joe Finch has written THE book!! Complete plans for 3 specific kilns. A gas fired kiln, a combination gas/wood kiln and a wood fired kiln. Plans are specific and clear. Diagrams, materials list, tips and more. Joe is also quick to reply via email to any questions you might have. As soon as the snow melts I am finally going to build the gas/wood fired kiln!!!

By Pan Gname If you are uncertain about how to go about building your own kiln at home this book will help you out. It was the first of several books that got the ball rolling for me and now I have my own kiln at home.
