Good basic estimating textbook Jul 04, 2009
By glennyD Of the five leading textbooks on construction estimating, this one is easiest to read and comprehend and is very popular. It is a bit out of date and lacks a chapter on roofing which seems to be a major omission.
It opens each chapter with "objectives" so that it is clear to the student what is to be learned from each chapter.

My Opinion Aug 03, 2010
By Manuel S. Martinez This book focuses more on the "principles" of construction estimating with emphasis on the admin/clerical aspects of it. Specific examples are few and far between.
Dagostino/Figenbaum's book, on the other hand, is at the other end where they have lots of concrete examples and somewhat short on the admin/clerical stuff. If you
are more the office type then buy Pratt's book. If you are more the field type/disect the construction plans then the Dagostino/Figenbaum book will be better for you.
Of course if you are the owner then you had better read both books to make sure your people are getting things right. Incomplete book so only three stars.
