Nice illustrations, good text Mar 19, 2002

This book is well-written with explanations of many of the "major big machines" typically seen in and around construction sites. The illustrations are excellent, with attention to detail. My one complaint is the book's construction. The pages are thinner than most paper pages and tend to tear easily. Also, the covers seem prone to ripping and tearing as well.

Great idea, details aren't accurate Jan 12, 2008

"Construction Worker's Dad"
Just a note that everything in this book is a "truck" - my 3 year old knows better. The pictures and idea of the book are great, but it was obviously either written by someone that does not have a feel for the details or it was dumbed down for the audience. There are better books out there for the 3 year old audience presenting the material accurately yet at the proper level.

Great Book! Oct 17, 2006
By robsmom My son is only 20 months old and just LOVES this book! The details in the drawings are so realistic. And it's great that they have both men and women working at construction sites! Too bad it doesn't come in hardcover, as this is a nightly read before bed and that has taken its toll on the paper pages.

Just what my 2-year-old son wanted Jan 12, 2012
By MN2LA My son loves everything about trucks, tools, and football. He's all boy, to be sure.
We gave him this book for Christmas and he hasn't tired of it at all (and that's saying something for a 2-yr-old). The pictures are vibrant and detailed and the scenery is very well done.
The text is accurate and informative. There may be some regional terms that aren't consistent with some readers' preconceptions about the vehicles and their functions. For example, what I call a road grader is called a motor grader and what I've known as a cement truck is called a concrete mixer. Neither is right or wrong, just different ways of saying the same thing.
Great book!

Great book for boys & girls Sep 08, 2005
By C. Virtue We've had this book since my twins were 2 years old. They both love it. The illustrations are colorful while being realistic; they're actually *better* than photos, because the artist can juxtapose several different trucks in one picture, which would be hard to do with a posed photo.
The book addresses suburban house construction, roads, and city demolition and building.
